As we sat before her for premarital counseling during our courtship days, her first statement surprised us; “You have both been pastors. You don’t need counselling.” I insisted; “Ma, we are not above counselling, we need counselling just as the people we have been counseling.”

Friend, the higher you go in life, the more you must learn to keep critical relationships that would be channels of wisdom in your life. Ruth had a Naomi who taught her how to behave wisely (Ruth 3:1-18). Moses had a Jethro (Exodus 18:23-24). Esther had a Mordecai (Esther 2:10). King Lemuel in Proverbs 31 had an instructor in his mother.

Who is instructing you? It is good to have someone who instructs you during courtship, but do you have someone who instructs you now that you are married? In life, you either learn by instruction or you learn by destruction.

Instructions give you the keys to unlock, release and maximize favour. What you got by favour, you can lose by folly (Esther 1:9-19, Psalms 85:8). When you seek the instruction of wisdom, you live a life of ease. People suffer and struggle in life when they transgress basic instructions (Proverbs 13:15).

You are only an instruction away from your next miracle (John 2:5). Stop fighting the truth that is designed to make you free (John 8:31-32). Get instructions at your work place and follow it. Get instructions for your newly found relationships and follow it. As a pastor, there should be someone speaking to your life if you want to be sane and safe (Exodus 18:17-24).

When outgrow instructions you go into destruction. Don’t let pride lead to your downfall (Proverbs 16:18). Submit to the instructions of wisdom from mentors and fathers. Stop competing with the person you should be learning from. There is a breakthrough coming your way, don’t let pride and folly stop you from getting it.
