As I stood before our Church congregation during the grand finale of our anniversary that year, I took time to appreciate everyone for their contributions to our Church and ministry. Then I added a final note; “Thank you for helping me to become a better pastor.” I knew I had become better pastoring our local Church.

FRIEND, THE CALL OF GOD UPON EVERY CHILD OF GOD IS TO BECOME (John 1:12). What are you becoming under God? What you are becoming is more important than what you are or have. YOU CAN BE RICH BECOMING POOR AND YOU CAN BE POOR BECOMING RICH (Proverbs 10:4). God is more committed to making you than giving you (Matthew 4:19, Luke 15:12).

At salvation, we receive the power to become sons of God; the power to express sonship to its fullest (John 1:12). HOWEVER, MATURITY IS SEEN IN OUR BECOMING LIKE JESUS IN CHARACTER. The more of Jesus we become in character, the more our sonship is revealed to the world (Romans 8:19, Ephesians 4:12-13).

YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU ARE BECOMING (Hosea 7:8-9). It is what you are becoming that would secure what you have. As an employee, you should ask yourself; “What have I become working for this company?” THE GREATEST BENEFIT YOU WOULD EVER GET WORKING FOR A COMPANY IS NOT THE SALARY BUT WHAT YOU BECOME WORKING THERE (Genesis 30:28-30).

As a member of a local Church, what are you becoming under the pastoral ministry that God has placed you? Are you becoming better in your walk with the Lord or just playing Church (1Corinthians 11:1)? WHAT YOU ARE BECOMING IS TIED TO WHAT YOU ARE LEARNING AND RECEIVING (Philippians 4:9). You can be in the right place learning and becoming the wrong thing.

EVENTS AND TIME ARE ELEMENTS THAT SHAPE WHAT WE BECOME. MAKE SURE THEY LEAVE YOU BETTER, NOT WORSE. After being jilted by that friend or fiance, what have you become; wiser or loose? After going through that traumatic experience, has it deepened your understanding of God or made you cold towards the things of God? Always remember that; “It is not win or lose, it is win or learn.” Your attitude will determine this.
