He sat across the table asking me some ministry related questions. Then he asked; “Sir, how do you cope with the various ministry demands around you and still be able to come up with fresh and impactful teachings?” My response was; “It has been a journey of years of capacity development.”
Friend, it is a sign of wisdom to dig your Wells before you are thirsty. Well talks about streams of support and leverage that would keep you going no matter the unfavourable external factors. When I read the response of the woman at the well to Jesus, I cannot but pause to think about how what I am doing today would impact generations yet unborn (John 4:12).
Jacob dug a well that Jesus came to seek water from after about 400 years! He did not only impact his immediate family. What are you doing today that would impact generations yet unborn? It takes effort and focus to dig wells. It is not done casually; you do it intentionally and with commitment.
You can either cultivate a prayer life that would only keep you going as a nominal Christian or one that would secure the future of your children and generations yet unborn (Psalms 112:1-2). God will always prepare you for what lies ahead even when it does not seem to matter today.
You need to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. He might tell you to keep that money untouched even when you think you should spend it now. He might tell you to do certain courses or connect with certain people that would be critical to where you are going. You would later draw from these wells (Isaiah 12:3).
When you see a man who appears stranded, you have seen a man who is not paying attention to the workings of God in his life per time. It is unlike God to take you into a future you are not prepared for (Genesis 45:7-8). It is unlike God to take you to a territory that you have not been equipped to handle. It is unlike God to create opportunities that you lack capacity for. God wants you to dig your Wells before you are thirsty. Amen.
