“Is it good to take your destiny in your hands?” This was the question I was asked recently, being a statement someone picked up from a conversation. I took the opportunity to explain matters of destiny to her. My thoughts were this; “while it is good that you take responsibility for your life, learn to allow God to have His way in your life.”

“O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walks to direct his steps (Jeremiah 10:23). This is a very instructive scripture. The way of man is not in himself! You cannot direct your own life. Your life has been scripted by Heaven with God as the Director. Your job is to act according to the scripts while listening to the instructions of the Director.

Jesus understood this when He said; “…Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me…to do Your will, Oh, Lord” (Psalms 40:7-8). This must be the posture of a man of destiny. You have only come to do His will. It is not by struggle or ‘sacrifice’ (Hebrews 10:5-7). It is not about trying to make things happen. It is submitting to what God has already made happen (Romans 9:15-16).

Perhaps, the reason the help of God seems far from a lot of people is this thinking that, “Heaven helps those who help themselves.” Nothing can be farther from the truth! Heaven only helps those who cannot help themselves; those who realise their need for God and leverage His help for victorious living. This is how to balance the sovereignty of God and the efforts of man (1 Corinthians 15:10).

This week, trust God more than you have ever done before. Unlike Jacob, stop trying to push things yourself, allow God to have His way (Genesis 32:24-30). Know that the man whose life is submitted to God is truly unstoppable. Say like Job; “I know that You can do all things. Nobody can beat you. You are powerful. And you can do anything that you want to do” (Job 42:2). May you manifest greatness in Jesus name! Amen!
