When I got to know his status in the secular, I found it interesting to see how he has been able to stay relevant in the service of the Kingdom. Most men at his level have been swamped in their career pursuit that they never realized their calling. In his life, I saw how you can reach the depth of your calling while pursuing career and business.
Friend, you have a calling. Most times that calling is swamped in your career (Colossians 4:17). If you would reach the depth of your calling, you must learn how to manage your career with your calling. You need to pursue your calling alongside your career. Your career would not outlive you, only your calling would do. Don’t spend your life pursuing career to the neglect of your calling.
The only thing you cannot retire from is your calling (Acts 28:30-31). You can retire as a banker, politician, or any other public office holder, but you cannot retire from your calling. While your career is tied to time, your calling is tied to your very life and existence (Acts 13:36). The devil wants you to waste your time and energy pursuing what is not eternal.
God is not against your career, He only wants you to invest your career as a platform for your calling (Acts 18:2-3, 26). Just as your career may look attractive to you now, you need to pursue your calling to make it attractive. The way to do this is to give due diligence to your calling as much as you do your career (2 Peter 1:10). Don’t wait until you are done with your career before pursuing your calling; do it side by side (Luke 1:1-4).
“It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first also…” (Luke 1:3). Luke was not going to use his medical career as an excuse for not being relevant to the program of God. He never had the mentality that it’s only men like Matthew, Mark, Peter, Paul and the likes that would be relevant to God’s program. He also gave a very detailed account of Jesus’ life and ministry as well as the move of God’s Spirit in the book of Acts (Luke 1:1-4, Acts 1:1).
Luke trained for his calling as he did his career. Although, Luke was not part of the twelve Apostles, he had perfect understanding of all things from the very beginning. He was not playing truant; he was not missing Church services. He made himself available so much that he reached the depth of his calling. Don’t give your career and business as excuse for laxity. Rather, leverage it for eternal relevance. You will succeed!
