I bumped into a conversation recently that goes thus; _”God does not have any specific purpose for individuals or nations. We all need to find what we know to do best and excel in it. This way, we glorify God and live a fulfilled life.”there were several reactions to this statement. But I picked out this point: purpose is underrated.

Friend, purpose is often underrated. Yes, I didn’t say, overrated. I have been a student of purpose for years. In my journeys, I discovered so many misconceptions, assumptions and misinformation on this subject. What then is purpose and why is it important?

Purpose is the _”why”_ behind the _”what”_ of your life. While there would be so many “what’s” around your life; what career path do I follow? What gift(s) do I have etc.? None of these is as important as the “why”. Until you know the why behind your life and activities, you have not yet begun the journey unto purpose and destiny (1 Samuel 17:29).

“Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you…” (Jeremiah 1:5). God’s purpose for your life predates your life and existence. Actually, it was what necessitated your birth. You were created on purpose and for purpose; until you realize this truth, life has no meaning. Always remember that how you came is not as important as why you came.

Purpose decides your paths in life. God designed our paths in life with purpose in view. There is a path we are all supposed to walk (Matthew 26:24, Ephesians 2:10). There is the invisible God behind the visible stuff in our lives. God was the silent worker behind Esther’s journey (Esther 4:14, Romans 8:28).

In purpose, God is the worker, you are the walker. We are supposed to walk into what God is working in our lives (John 6:28-29, Ephesians 1:11, 2:10). The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (Psalms 37:23). Your job is to remain in fellowship and alignment with Him as you stay conscious of the why behind the what of your life.
