If you are in some parts of Nigeria, you must have heard about “Omo Onile”. These are land grabbers who lay claim on properties that people have legitimately bought. So someone told me recently that his style is to go to his purchased properties with cutlass to scare off these land grabbers. Funny, right? According to him, “you cannot dispossess me of what I have legitimately bought.”

Friend, the devil no longer has possession of your inheritance in destiny; they are yours because Christ has bought them for you via His finished work on the cross (Colossians 1:12). In Christ, God has given you everything you ever need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). You have been born into an inheritance. You are a joint heir with Christ, a co-owner with Him (Romans 8:17).

However, that you have an inheritance is not a guarantee that you would enjoy it. The inheritances that you have in Christ are not going to be yours automatically, you have got to lay claim on them. Some people are ignorant of the inheritance while some lack a fighting spirit. This is why the devil shortchanges a lot of people today.

“My people are destroyed (stripped off honour and dignity) because of lack of knowledge…” (Hosea 4:6). It is the word of His Grace (the finished work of Christ) that not only builds you up, but also gives you your inheritance among those who are sanctified (Acts 20:32). The cure for ignorance is knowledge for you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free (John 8:32).

There are people who may not be suffering from ignorance but from lack of a fight. They are knowledgeable but lack zeal. The combination of knowledge and zeal is very important if you would deliver your inheritance in destiny. While knowledge shows you what is yours, zeal helps you to go right there and possess it. You need to back up your knowledge with zeal; you need to have a fighting spirit.

“… I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle” (Deuteronomy 2:24). The way to possess is to contend. It is to tell the enemy, “get off my property, get off my inheritance! You are an illegal occupant! The rightful owner is here!” This is how to fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life (1 Timothy 6:12). You will succeed!
