I was chatting with a dear one the other day on how to sustain balance in all areas despite busy schedules. The complaint was that; “Balancing my spiritual life, marital life, business life etc. has been very difficult.” Having understood his plight, I simply said; “Stop trying to balance this and that, just fix the main thing and others would align.”

Friend, the secret to maintaining balance in your life is not trying to balance stuff. It is recognizing and fixing the main thing. When the main thing is fixed, other stuff would naturally find their bearing and stability. It is wisdom to recognize and major on the major in your life (Matthew 6:33).

CONTRARY TO WHAT MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE, YOU DO NOT HAVE MANY LIVES; YOU HAVE ONE LIFE WITH MANY EXPRESSIONS. There is nothing like; “My spiritual life, my academical life, my financial life, my ministerial life, my business life etc.” Living life this way is simply fragmenting your life. YOU HAVE ONLY ONE LIFE; YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE (John 3:5-6, Galatians 2:20).

Always remember that you are a spirit, you have a soul and live in a body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). AS A CHRISTIAN, YOU ARE NOT A NATURAL MAN TRYING TO HAVE A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE, YOU ARE A SPIRITUAL MAN, HAVING NATURAL EXPERIENCES. Your spiritual life is your real life; your natural experiences are the expressions of that spiritual life.

Have you ever wondered why the Bible calls us trees (Psalms 1:3, 92:12-15, Isaiah 61:3)? I believe it is because God wants us to understand the functioning of a tree and apply the same principle to our daily life. YOUR ROOT IS GOD, THE STEM IS YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE, the branches are the expressions of that life (career, marriage, business, ministry etc), while the fruits are the results and successes from the branches.

NO TREE PRODUCES FRUITS BY FOCUSING ON THE FRUITS OR BRANCHES. It only focuses on the root and stem, then the branches produce the fruits. YOUR ROOT IN GOD IS CRITICAL FOR YOUR FRUITING. It is those who are planted in God that would bear fruit (Psalms 92:13). Once your stem (spiritual life) is firmly connected to your root (God), the result would be branches producing fruits in their season (Psalms 1:3).
