We were on our way out the other day when my daughter said; “Daddy, I want Bread.” My response was simple: “Don’t worry, we would get it on our way back.” That assuring statement quieted her. True to my words, I made sure we got the bread. I could see the satisfaction in her eyes as she ate the bread.

Friend, God can be trusted. Over the years, we have taught our kids to trust us; this way, we want them to know that God can be trusted. God wants parents to model the fatherhood of God to their children. Really, we don’t know the damage we do to these innocent ones when we don’t stay true to our words.

Unlike some of our earthly parents, God can be trusted for at least two reasons; He is all knowing and all powerful. The challenge sometimes with our earthly parents is that they may be sincere and willing but lack the ability (Ephesians 3:20). Or they may be faced with situations beyond  their control. This is unlike God (Isaiah 49:15-16).

If an earthly parent like me would go all the way to ensure that I fulfil my promise, how much more God (Matthew 7:11)? For some people, the experiences they had with their earthly parents have punctured their faith walk. A lot of people have been disappointed, some have been abused, and quite a lot have been forsaken.

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up” (Psalms 27:10). This must be our confident assurance. It does not matter the experiences you have had with your earthy parents, and even people generally, you must always remember that God is not man. He will not forsake you. You have been engraved in the palms of His hands (Isaiah 49:16).

“Can a woman forget her sucking child… they may forget, yet will I not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15). Our confident trust in God must rest on this truth. God can be trusted. He is willing. He is able. He is ready. He is faithful. He is loving. This season, learn to trust God more than ever before. Shift your focus from the disappointment of men to the faithfulness of God. God can be trusted.
