One of the things we learnt earlier in our secondary school chemistry is about a particularly gas called laughing gas. So, anytime anyone laughs profusely, we would often make a joke with this line; “Did you inhale laughing gas?” But I later discovered that you don’t need to inhale laughing gas to really laugh. You need to learn to laugh.
Friend, learn to laugh. Laughter is not only medicinal. It is also scriptural (Job 5:22). Laughter is one of the expressions of joy and a confirmation of your dominion. Those who are in dominion don’t fidget (Psalm 110:1-3). They laugh. Laughter shows that you are not under pressure. It also confuses the enemy and boosts your confidence.
Sometimes, the way to respond to satanic threats and life’s tests is not only to pray or shout. It is also to laugh. This was the same posture that God took in heaven when the heathen raged (Psalm 2:1-4). One proof that you are seated in heaven and conscious of your position above the devil and life’s problems is laughter. He that seats in heaven shall laugh (Psalm 2:4)!
If you are born again, you are already seated in heaven (Ephesians 2:6). But why are you not laughing? Why do you frown through life? Why do you always feel tense and under pressure? Why do you often wear your problem on your face rather than your victory (2 Corinthians 2:14)? Your understanding and revelation are the cause.
In our kingdom, frowning is not a sign of seriousness (Proverbs 15:13). Laughter is. Sometimes, we mistake laughter for unseriousness. But you cannot be more serious than God. If God laughs, why shouldn’t you? When you get to heaven, you will realise that it is an atmosphere of joy and ecstacy (Romans 14:17). No moodiness. No tightness. No pressure.
Don’t wait until you get to heaven before you laugh (Matthew 6:10). Laughter is not a fruit of the Spirit. It is also the expression of people with understanding. Whereas the Holy Spirit produces the fruit of joy inside you, one way to express it is to rejoice and laugh (Philippians 4:4). You do it intentionally. Your laughter is a sign of the devil’s defeat and of your victory (Philippians 1:28). Learn to laugh.
