I grew up with the idea of New Year Resolutions. At the turn of the new year, I would write down my resolutions for the year. I dutifully followed them most times, but at times, I don’t. Now, as the years pass by, I have come to understand the balance.

Friend, it’s amazing how things are moving quite fast and a lot of events already unfolding this season. Peradventure, you are still trying to get your bearing for the year. You probably made some resolutions as we moved to the new year. How have you fared regarding some of those plans (Ecclesiastes 10:10)?

There are two kinds of extremes regarding New Year Resolutions. There are those who do not believe in resolutions, or even the idea of “the new year.” There are those who think that New Year Resolutions would automatically lead to a new life. While New Year Resolutions can be important in spurring us to action, they are not enough (Philippians 3:12-14).

You need to understand the balance you must bring into your life that would ensure that you do not only have resolutions, but you actually deliver your ultimate destiny. What are New Year Resolutions? Quite simply; what do you need to stop doing? What do you need to start doing (Ecclesiastes 10:15)? What do you need to do more? What adjustments are you making for this year to be better than the previous?

A life of success is one that is a product of adjustments and alignments (Acts 9:1-6). Alignment is a constant factor for stability, progress and longevity. This is what we do with resolutions; you don’t want to live your life on autopilot. You need to be intentional with adjustments and alignments, and most importantly, with commitments. Commitment is what transforms resolutions to manifestations.

Your resolutions won’t make themselves happen automatically. It is devotion that converts resolution to manifestations (Romans 12:11). Have you resolved to have savings this year? Be devoted to it. Have you resolved to love on your spouse? Be devoted to it. Have you resolved to take your walk with God higher this year? Be devoted to it.
