My wife and I married as virgins. We courted for a little over four years. We made the decision to keep ourselves pure and God kept us. Obviously, we both didn’t know how sex looked like. All we had to do was to get books on the subject aside the teachings and counseling we had received. It helped us greatly.

Friend, in the school of marriage, ignorance is not an excuse. You need to acquire relevant knowledge to make your relationship and marriage work. When it comes to the subject of marriage Jesus said, “have you not read…?” (Matthew 19:4). A lot of people are only excited about marriage without seeing the need to learn.

For some couples, the last time they read a book was during their courtship days. They only read to get wedded, not to live the married life. Acquiring relevant knowledge must be an ongoing practice in your marriage. You are where you today in your relationship and marriage because of what you know.

Sometimes, the challenges couples go through can simply be solved with a book. This is why Apostle Peter admonished husbands to, “dwell with them according to knowledge…”(1 Peter 3:7). Don’t be deceived into thinking that you know all there is to relationship and marriage.

Knowledge is key. You don’t know until you know. You may even be a Relationship and Marriage Coach and not know how to make your own marriage work. It is not about what you preach but about what you live by. It is about the critical knowledge you have emersed yourself into.

I want to encourage you today to go for relevant knowledge in the area of relationship and marriage. Let your search for knowledge begin with Christ. Marriage is about Christ and the Church, and until you know Christ; both His person and His principles, your marital success is not guaranteed (Ephesians 5:31-32). You will succeed! Amen!
