A young man came to church bound by addiction. The pastor prayed, and God delivered him. For 2 weeks, he was on fire. Then he stopped coming for Bible study. Stopped serving. Stopped feeding on the Word. 3 months later, he was back to the same struggle, even worse. God didn’t fail him. He was delivered but not discipled.
Friend, there is life beyond deliverance. Deliverance is not the finish line. It’s the starting point. God didn’t just save us from the devil’s power so we could sit idle. He saved us to serve His purpose (Luke 1:74). Jesus cast out demons, but He also taught, trained, and sent people on mission (Luke 8:2-3).
A true New Testament minister doesn’t just cast out. He builds up. He delivers by the anointing and empowers by the Word (Mark 5:15-20). Because until the Word empowers you, the deliverance isn’t complete. Jesus sets you free, but it’s truth that keeps you free (John 8:31-32).
What happens after deliverance matters. We must move from deliverance to discipleship (Matthew 28:18-20). Jesus warned about the returning spirit for a reason. The spirit realm forbids emptiness (Luke 11:24-26). If you’re not filled with God, something else will try to fill the space.
You need discipleship. You need to be taught who you are in Christ, what you have in Christ, and how to walk in it daily (Ephesians 4:20-21). Your life must be filled with the Word, the Spirit, and Kingdom assignments that keep you engaged for God and destiny. That’s how you stay free (Matthew 11:28-30).
If you keep needing deliverance over and over, check what you’re pursuing. What you run after is what will deliver you from what is running after you (Philippians 3:10-14). That’s why God places you in a church family with structure — so you’re engaged for life and destiny (Psalm 68:6). If God does not engage you, the devil will entangle you.
