We were in a meeting one day where everyone was asked to make a prayer request. When it was my daughter’s turn, her request inspired me. She said, “I want God to help me to fulfil my destiny.” My daughter saw fulfilling destiny as something higher than anything else.
Friend, eternity with God is not just about making heaven. It is about fulfilling the very purpose for which you were born. This is why either of two destinies await people in heaven; a crown or a cry (2 Timothy 4:6-8, Revelations 21:4). Those who are welcomed in heaven with a crown are those who fought a good fight, finished their course, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). It is for those who maximized their stay on the earth to fulfil the purpose for which God placed them here on the earth.
The way to prepare for life after here and now is to maximize here and now. Our goal is not only to make heaven but also to fulfil the purpose of our existence on earth (Jeremiah 1:4-5). When you find and understand the relationship between your life here on earth and your life after now, it would cause you to live with eternity in view (1 John 3:3).
If you truly believe that heaven is for you and not hell, then you would live life fulfilling purpose so that you can give a worthy account of the life you spent here on earth when you get before God (Romans 14:12, 1 Peter 4:5). There is a life after here and now. Our destination in eternity will be determining by our relationship with Jesus while our placement will be determined by our works here on earth (1 Corinthians 15:29-33, 2 Timothy 4:7-8, Revelation 14:13, 20:12-13).
Don’t let anybody deceive you. God did not create you for hell, but your choice here on earth can guarantee one for you. God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance, but your choice will determine if you would perish or not (2 Peter 3:9b). God has done His part by sending Jesus to the earth. You have got to do your part by accepting Him into your life and living for Him, fulfilling purpose.
You need to live conscious of eternity by being conscious of the reason you are placed here on the earth. You need to allow Jesus into your life so you can walk in the purpose for which you were sent here on the earth (Ephesians 2:10). You need to live ready and prepared to give God a worthy account of your life here on the earth (Romans 14:12, Colossians 1:10, 1 Peter 4:5). Live to receive a crown and not end with a cry.
