I drove out to see someone the other day. I had not been to that place before, but he gave a description that perfectly guided me. He said; “Once you drive into our street, my house is the tallest building on that street with a penthouse.” True to his words, I drove in and saw the house from afar. That experience taught me who a Christian is; a city on a hill.

Friend, you are a city on a hill (Matthew 5:14). This is your destiny as a child of God. God has positioned you in your generation to reveal His light and glory. He wants your light to shine for all to see, and He wants your life to give direction to others and bring them into divine purpose and will (Isaiah 60:1-3). When you see yourself as a city on a hill, you won’t live anyhow.

A city on a hill gives direction. Therefore, as a child of God, you should not be confused (Isaiah 48:17, 21). Rather, you should be the one giving direction to others. This is where prayer and your intimacy with God come in. As you step on the mountain of prayer, you see better and know better (Habakkuk 2:1-4). You know where to go and what to do.

As a city on a hill, you have the capacity to impact cities, nations, and generations for God (Isaiah 60:15). This capacity comes from yielding to the Holy Spirit. The example of the mad man of Gadara shows how yielding to God can lead to significant impact – he ended up reaching ten cities (Decapolis) for God despite his past struggles (Mark 5:1-20).

A city on a hill speaks to visions and visibility. It is your vision that gives you visibility (Proverbs 29:18). It is your vision that makes you relevant. People would know you for what you stand and live for. On the mountain of intimacy and fellowship with God, He supplies you vision and gives you visibility. It is where you stand in the spirit that determines what you see and who sees you (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

A city on a hill speaks to prosperity. It is the force of prosperity that causes you to spread abroad (Zechariah 1:17). Whereas Satan wants to limit the expression of God and greatness in your life, God wants you to spread through prosperity. Your prosperity is connected to your obedience (Job 36:11). When you respond to God, life and people would respond to you.
